How to Configure Network Proxy Settings in Windows 10

Proxies offer a wide range of advantages to network connections that include increased security and bandwidth savings. You can set them up at your home if experiencing a slow internet connection. You can configure proxy settings in Windows 10 through the Settings app or Control Panel. If you use a proxy for work or school make sure that the Automatic detection settings and Use setup script switches are on in the Automatic proxy Setup section.

To modify your settings manually to alter your settings manually, you can open the Internet Options window via the Control Panel or by searching for “Internet options” in the search bar. Click the Advanced tab, then open the LAN settings in it. In the Address and Port fields, type in the details of your proxy provider. Then, select the box that says Use the proxy server to connect to your LAN. Close the Internet Options window.

Sometimes, malware can mess with your settings for a proxy server to block you from getting online. If the error “Windows could not automatically detect the proxy settings for this network” persists it is recommended to run a scan using an anti-malware program and see if it improves your experience.

If the issue persists, you can try resetting proxy settings via the Registry. Be cautious since changing the Registry could cause irreparable damage to your system. We recommend making backups prior to proceeding with this method. To do this simply press the Win + R keys at the same time. Enter cmd, then press Enter. This will launch the traditional Command Prompt.
